Our client, a promising start up with a business focus on developing high volume customer facing and B2B systems specializing in revenue producing production environments across a range of business domains, is looking for a Lead Software Developer.

RESPONSABILITIES

In this role you will be responsible for owning and directing the technical and developmental aspects of
our new mobile messaging applications platform. Based on your vision we will know who/what type of
additional resources we need to bring on next. Although you will not be responsible to managing
individuals, you will be called upon to provide leadership to a small group of programmers in the technical
design, development, launch and maintenance of the mobile applications platform.

You will be asked to take ownership of the following functions:

• Understanding the business application and component requirements
• Devising the most effective & efficient technical design to meet overall business objectives
• Determine developmental resource requirements (additional developers, disciplines etc…)
• Create the Development & Production Environments (Server & Network Infrastructure, Database, Programming Languages & Philosophies etc…)
• Create technical designs that deliver the business and/or end user experience based on non-technical papers created by the business managers
• Work / interface with client’s technical support and create APIs that allow our clients to effectively interface with our applications
• Work closely with the business manager to become well versed in the wireless application space
• Provide creative ideas for future application and business development

In contrast to more traditional software shops, we will follow an “Agile” approach to software development
including: short iterations, lots of face-to-face communication, friendly high-trust environment, continuous
integration and automation, keeping processes as simple as possible with frequent retrospectives.
This individual will need to be able to both see the big picture and troubleshoot small bugs hidden in
complex applications. They will also have to be open-minded and creative as many technical hurdles will
require nonlinear solutions.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

The ideal candidate will have development experience in network protocol, telephony, mobile messaging
(SMS), web and desktop applications. More specifically:

• Advanced Experience in Development Platforms: C#, Java, Linux, Asterisk
• Experience with open source systems and internet security protocols
• Network: TCP/IP Protocols, HTTP, SIP, Firewalls
• Dbase: MySQL, Oracle system experience are useful assets, experience with data-warehousing and reporting
• O/S: Windows, Various UNIX
• Post-secondary degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Excellent communications skills in English (French is an asset)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrated critical thinking abilities, consistently delivers high quality work
• Demonstrated ability to acquire new skills in the use of software development methodologies and tools

Position Overview
Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Infrastructure Architect will consolidate input from Sales, Product Management, Development, Support and Operations while establishing the platform architecture including systems infrastructure, application infrastructure, hosting centre sites, redundancy strategy and capacity plan which will allow the company to meet its objectives.

Working in conjunction with project management, the Infrastructure Architect will validate that project launches are in line with operational requirements and that overall priorities of system availability, capacity availability and architectural integrity are included at the solution requirements definition phase.

As a key senior technical resource within the team, the Infrastructure Architect will review major capacity upgrades on both systems and applications infrastructure, assist in the analysis of complex operations and assess performance issues facing the team.

Responsibilities
• Define the infrastructure capacity model for the next 24 months
• Define standard deployment models with varying architectures and availability targets and cost models
• Define the operations, hosting roadmap and standards for architectures and deployments in line with SLA requirements including the future monitoring solution required by the NOC
• Identify business and technological risks of recommended solutions
• Act as primary contact with Product Management to review new feature requirements and feature description to ensure they meet operational requirements
• Influence a new culture where all operational and infrastructure requirements are included at the early phases of a new product design
• Support engineering in the creation of capacity and performance tuning guidelines
• Define solution deployment approach for new projects including hardware and application requirements, upgrade and cut-over strategy
• Define and document the recommended hardware/software platform standards for the service platform infrastructure

• Minimum 10 years technology experience with 5 years in an architecture role
• Knowledge of internet protocols and technologies
